The Lab is our weekly office rave up where we live stream some of the biggest and best names in dance music.
This week we’re honored to have a producer whose dedication to both the art of DJing and the deeper side of trance now sees him headlining festivals around the globe: Markus Schulz
Markus started DJing in the early 90s, embracing the German techno of the time, and developing his trademark sound that would go on to distinguish him from the overtly fluffy trance that became popular in the noughties.
Markus was soon one of the genre’s most respected names, and in 2005 he launched Coldharbour Records, now with over 100 releases, a label that has launched the careers of many a trance producer.
Both the Skream and Skream 2 albums received critical acclaim in the dance music press, each one encompassing the broad spectrum of tracks Marcus plays in his sets. Check out the video on the making of Skream 2 below.
Schulz has always been a champion of true DJing, and like he says “simply rolling out with a one-hour set of the Beatport top ten is not it.” This Friday he’ll be flexing those DJ muscles to their full capacity by playing a special extended set at Ministry of Sound, allowing him to delve deep into his collection and take The Box on a proper journey.
Tune in below or to Mixmag TV this Friday from 16:30 BST to catch Markus Schulz in action.
